HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEO!

Although we may not always like to admit it, Leo is the sovereign of the zodiac and individuals born under this sign are meant to be in the spotlight.

Just like the animal kingdom, where the lion’s brute strength protects the pride and the lioness’ fierce hunting skills nourish it, Leo women are just as formidable and accomplished as Leo men.

For example, while Lions Carl Jung, Henry Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Andy Warhol, Gene Kelly, Mick Jagger, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, Sean Penn, Benito Mussolini, Fidel Castro and Bill Clinton have certainly made their mark in the world, so have Lionesses Coco Chanel, Amelia Earhart, Mata Hari, Annie Oakley, Beatrix Potter, Lucille Ball, Julia Child, Jacqueline Kennedy, Madonna, Martha Stewart, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lopez, Martha Stewart and J.K. Rowling.

Indeed, there is no other sign that celebrates life with as much joy, enthusiasm and panache as Leo, and both sexes appreciate an extravagant lifestyle.

Although their innate nature is warm, loving and generous, Leo has a well-deserved reputation for being vain, self-centered and melodramatic and their fiery nature that can singe a heart as easily as it warms it.

When they feel secure and appreciated, however, they lavish others with affection, attention and praise.  In fact, when it comes to spoiling loved ones Leos have more than just big hearts; they have big budgets as well.

You may love them or loathe them, but you will never be lukewarm about Leos because every single one of them is born with star quality.

Twenty-four years ago this coming August, I was on a gurney just outside the delivery room with my newborn daughter resting comfortably across my chest.

A swinging door opened, and in walked the doctor with my mom and dad who like most Italian parents had been sitting in the waiting room since the moment I arrived at the hospital.

As they came to see their first and only grandchild, my daughter – less than two hours old – lifted her head ever so slightly and let out a roar so loud that it could have roused the dead.

Right then and there, we not only knew that a star had been born but that she knew it as well.

Every sign of the zodiac shines in its own way, but none of them sparkle as brilliantly as Leo.

And no matter how blinding the light, rest assured the lion never loses track of her loved ones because she follows them with her heart.
